Have you ever been curious about the fate of lottery winners? Have you ever wondered if they continue playing and if they manage to win again?
Winning big has become more than a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence for a Virginia Lottery player.
Meet Norfolk’s Lucinda Britt.
In May, Britt successfully matched the four-digit combination in the Virginia Lottery Pick 4 drawing by selecting her birth year as 1-9-7-2.
Britt’s winning lottery strategy
Nowadays, it has become quite common for individuals to employ their birth year as a strategy when selecting lottery numbers. However, Britt took this approach to a whole new level by doubling down on her numbers, going above and beyond.
On a single ticket, the average reward for winning a Pick 4 drawing is $5,000.
Britt acquired a total of 41 tickets featuring the mentioned combination. Out of these, she managed to hit the number directly on 36 tickets, resulting in a prize of $5,000 per ticket. As for the remaining five tickets, she achieved a 50/50 outcome and collected $2,600 for each ticket.
The tickets were purchased from two different locations in Norfolk, specifically the Quick Stop Foods on Sewell’s Point Road and the Industrial Park BP on East Princess Anne Road.
She managed to accumulate an astonishing $193,000 in total and intends to use the amount to clear her mortgage.
“I was absolutely stunned!” she exclaimed in a press release from the Virginia Lottery. “The joy was overwhelming, causing my leg to shake uncontrollably with happiness.”
That first-time feeling
However, this was not Britt’s first encounter with a victory. In fact, Britt had previously won an even more substantial prize from the Virginia Lottery just six years ago.
Britt and her friend Jennifer Molina were fortunate enough to win a $1 million prize from the Bank a Million game back in August 2016. On that occasion, Britt had selected her six numbers by combining various family birthdays.
According to the 2016 Virginia Lottery release, Molina and Britt had been friends for a decade. The objective of the Bank a Million game was for the winner to receive a million dollars after deducting taxes.
The ticket was bought by Britt’s sibling from the Smoke Shack located on Ballentine Blvd in Norfolk. By playing the numbers 11-14-22-24-28-38, they successfully matched all six digits and won the prize.
The Virginia Lottery continues to offer Bank a Million, holding drawings on Wednesday and Saturday evenings. The chances of winning the grand prize stand at 1 in 3.8 million.
What are the chances of winning a lottery game twice within a span of six years?
Virginia Lottery funds education
However, it’s not just the players who are taking home the significant victories.
Virginia students are reaping the benefits of a significant triumph.
According to its website, the Virginia Lottery has been able to contribute over $2 million daily towards public school education efforts since its establishment in 1987. In the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2021, lottery customers generated an impressive funding amount of over $765 million for education in Virginia.
Therefore, make a trip to your closest lottery retailer and show your support for the Commonwealth.
And who knows—by playing it wisely, you might even emerge victorious on two occasions.
