Washington Warriors

The likelihood of the “Washington Warriors” being chosen as the new name for the Washington Football Team is quite low.

In fact, do not anticipate any Native American imagery to be included.

Jason Wright, the WFT Team President, has recently given an update on the progress of the NFL franchise’s search for a new name and logo.

Although we haven’t finalized the new names yet, Wright did reject a few possibilities. Sadly, one option that was becoming popular among fans, the Washington Warriors, has been eliminated from consideration.

Washington Warriors a no-go

In 2020, the Washington Redskins changed their name to the WFT. The decision to retire the old name was influenced by both years of opposition and increased complaints from sponsors like FedEx and Nike, prompting team officials to take action.

In the end, Washington decided on a temporary name, the Washington Football Team, while they make a final decision on a permanent mascot.

In his most recent letter, Wright expressed that removing a name widely regarded as a racial slur for Native Americans is simply the morally correct action to take.

Earlier this year, the Washington Football Team (WFT) contacted their season-ticket holders to gather feedback for a new team name. The suggestions received were diverse and abundant, with options like “Red Hawks” and “Red Tails” gaining popularity among the choices centered around the “Red-” theme. However, there were also some fans who proposed the name “Warriors,” which has gained a considerable amount of support.

However, Wright stated that “Washington Warriors” is not a possibility.

Some may see this name change as a natural and harmless transition, since it doesn’t necessarily have a negative meaning. However, our research and discussions with different groups have shown us that “context matters” and this could be a slippery slope. The feedback we received from various communities clearly expressed a deep discomfort with the name Warriors, as it closely relates to Native American themes. Adopting imagery and symbolism that is potentially similar to Native American culture would not be the clear departure that many communities have strongly urged us to make. In fact, it goes against our original intention when we began this process a year ago.

No Native American imagery

Certain supporters of WFT have expressed discontent over the removal of the previous name, as they believe it negatively affects their cherished memories. Wright acknowledged that the company has undergone substantial transformations in both its structure and values. One notable change involves completely dissociating from any Native American imagery.

Nevertheless, the alteration in name fails to modify the course of history.

As he wrote:

I want to make it clear that transitioning away from the old name does not diminish the meaningful memories that many of you have with your loved ones, watching your football heroes in burgundy and gold. Those moments hold great value, and we seek your assistance in safeguarding those memories as we embrace a new identity that will attract even more fans to join the Washington family.

According to Wright, the company has narrowed down its options to a select few names. In an interview with The Washington Post, he mentioned that the team intends to unveil the new name and logo at the beginning of 2022.

Literally betting on Washington team name?

Do you have any guesses about what the new name of the Washington team will be? Are you feeling confident in your prediction?

You may feel enticed to place a bet based on your intuition. It’s understandable, considering the numerous media reports highlighting betting odds on unconventional sports events that have nothing to do with actual gameplay.

Nevertheless, prop bets like wagering on an MMA fighter’s upcoming opponent or predicting which celebrities will be present cageside at their fight, are not offered by legal sportsbooks in Virginia or other parts of the US. However, these types of bets can be found through illegal offshore bookies.

It is worth mentioning that certain authorized US sportsbooks may provide pick’em games or pool contests featuring these kinds of propositions. However, due to strict regulations, legal US sportsbooks generally cannot accept bets on markets that are not directly related to the outcome of the game. This is primarily to prevent the exploitation of insider information or manipulation.

Currently, Washington football fans must focus their attention on the action taking place on the field rather than the activities occurring in the front office.
