The First-Place Washington Football Team Making Moves In NFL Futures Market

Written By Dann Stupp on November 30, 2020Last Updated on August 4, 2022
Although the NFL futures market now considers the Washington Football Team a bonafide division contender, any further success is still a bit of a longshot.

As of December 1, 2020, the NFL has made changes to the schedule for this week. Washington and Baltimore now have new game times, which are listed below.

While the NFL futures market acknowledges the Washington Football Team as a legitimate division contender, achieving more success remains somewhat unlikely.

Last week, the Washington football team dominated their rival, the Dallas Cowboys, with a resounding 41-16 victory on Thanksgiving Day. This win marks their first consecutive wins of the year, and as a result, they now hold a share of the NFC East lead with a 4-7 record.

Having clinched their third consecutive win by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, the New York Giants currently hold a 4-7 record in the division. Additionally, their 23-20 victory against Washington in Week 9 gives them the advantage in the division tiebreaker.

Despite this, the NFC East is still up for grabs, with both the Philadelphia Eagles (3-6-1) and the Cowboys (3-8) in contention. Surprisingly, the Eagles are considered the frontrunners to win the division according to current odds, with five games left for each team.

As the Washington Football Team gets ready for their NFL Week 13 game against the formidable Pittsburgh Steelers, bettors placing futures bets are noticing a significant tightening of the WFT’s odds.

Washington Is +250 to Win NFC East

As we approach NFL Week 13, let’s take a glance at the NFC East futures odds provided by DraftKings, a prominent legal sportsbook in the United States.

Record To win NFC East To win NFC To win Super Bowl
Philadelphia 3-6-1 +150 +4000 +8000
New York 4-7 +250 +5000 +10000
Washington 4-7 +250 +5000 +10000
Dallas 3-8 +700 +7500 +15000

The Washington Football Team (WFT) began the season as underdogs with odds of around 8-1 (+800) to win the division. However, they have significantly improved and currently hold their best odds of the season at +250.

Indeed, the team reached a peak of +1450 prior to the commencement of the season. Nevertheless, following Washington’s surprising victory over Philadelphia in Week 1 and the general lackluster performance of the NFC East division in 2020, the NFL futures markets for the four NFC East teams have experienced significant volatility.

Despite this, the East Division teams are not regarded as formidable contenders to win the NFC championship. With odds of +5000 (50-1) for Washington to emerge as NFC champions, a successful $100 wager would yield a handsome profit of $5,000. In simpler terms, the likelihood of this outcome is deemed highly improbable.

However, if we dare to dream big, why not entertain the highly improbable notion of a Super Bowl victory for Washington? With odds of 100-1 (+10000), a successful $100 wager on the WFT emerging as champions would result in a remarkable five-figure payout – $10,000.

The Washington Football Team’s odds of winning the 2020-2021 NFL Championship are significantly lower compared to the current favorites in the league. The Kansas City Chiefs (+275), New Orleans Saints (+550), and Steelers (+600) are the top contenders in the NFL futures market.

WFT Hits Road for Pittsburgh Steelers

If Washington manages to pull off an upset this week, their futures odds could decrease even more.

Washington will face off against an undefeated Pittsburgh team on the road. Originally scheduled for Sunday, the game has been rescheduled to Monday, December 7th at 5 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox. More details about the rescheduling can be found below.

Despite the delay, Pittsburgh will face a challenging schedule with limited rest. Initially, the Steelers were supposed to play against the Baltimore Ravens last week, but due to multiple reschedulings, the game has been moved to Wednesday of this week. Consequently, Pittsburgh will have a mere four full days between their upcoming games.

Washington initially started as 11-point underdogs against Pittsburgh, but the line had been reduced to 10 points by Monday afternoon, possibly influenced by Pittsburgh’s reschedulings. Bettors showed early support for the WFT, leading to the shift in the line. As of Monday afternoon, oddsmakers had not yet released the total.

At present, the chances of Pittsburgh completing the NFL regular season with a 16-0 record are set at +400.

Not many people have high expectations for Ron Rivera’s Washington team when it comes to dethroning the only undefeated team in the NFL. Nevertheless, a victory would certainly boost Washington’s morale, especially for running back Antonio Gibson, who recently had an impressive game with 115 yards and 3 touchdowns against Dallas. This win could provide much-needed momentum for the team as they enter a crucial phase in the latter part of the season.

Other Week 13 Games of Note to Virginia

Virginia football fans can look forward to an exciting lineup of NFL Week 13 games featuring their beloved teams.

Cleveland Browns at Tennessee Titans (-5)

Following their impressive 45-26 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, the Tennessee Titans (8-3) will be hosting the rapidly advancing Cleveland Browns (8-3) as they take the lead in the NFL South division. The Titans have been initially favored by 3.5 points for their upcoming game on Sunday (1 p.m., CBS), but the line has rapidly increased to 5 to 5.5 points, depending on the sportsbook. With both teams boasting highly-rated running games, the total score for this game is set at a healthy 54 points.

Derrick Henry, from Tennessee, holds the top spot in the NFL for rushing with 1,257 yards. Nevertheless, Cleveland boasts two running backs within the top 10 rankings: Nick Chubb, securing the sixth position with 719 yards, and Kareem Hunt, ranking ninth with 706 yards.

Dallas Cowboys at Baltimore Ravens (n/a)

Due to the Ravens’ recent COVID-19 outbreak, their scheduled Thursday Night Football game against the Cowboys had to be rescheduled. Instead, their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers was postponed to Wednesday this week. Consequently, the Ravens will now face the Cowboys on Tuesday, December 8th, at 8 p.m. on Fox. At this time, lines and odds for the game have not been widely released.

Carolina Panthers Bye Week

After suffering a devastating 28-27 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the Carolina Panthers (4-8) head into their bye week. This defeat has been their sixth in the last seven games, pushing them to the bottom of the NFC South standings. However, they will have a chance at redemption when they face the Denver Broncos (4-7) on Sunday, Dec. 13, in their upcoming game at home.
