VA Powerball

Although they didn’t win the grand prize, 68,000 individuals in Virginia became Powerball winners and received a small amount of money after the significant drawing on Wednesday.

According to the Virginia Lottery, five individuals who won the Virginia Powerball each received a prize of $50,000.

The Jan. 5 drawing of Powerball, a lottery game available in most US states, attracted the attention of lotto players. With no jackpot winner in the past 39 drawings, the jackpot had reached an astonishing $636.2 million.

Two individuals, who are not residents of Virginia, have acquired winning tickets for the jackpot. Consequently, they will now divide the prize, which happens to be the seventh-largest jackpot in Powerball history and the 11th largest in the world of lottery.

However, Virginia also had its share of smaller winners.

Virginia Powerball winners score secondary prizes

Even if you don’t win the jackpot, Powerball prizes can vary from $4 to a million dollars.

In order to win the jackpot, players need to match five white balls (numbered 1-69) and the Powerball (numbered 1-26). However, even if you only match the Powerball and no other numbers, you can still win “secondary prizes” amounting to $4.

As you continue to match additional numbers, the payouts will grow larger.

The majority of the Powerball winners from Wednesday’s draw in Virginia received payouts of $4 and $7. Additionally, a few lucky individuals managed to secure $100 prizes.

The individuals from VA who won the largest prizes, receiving $50,000 each, managed to match four out of the first five numbers along with the Powerball. The chances of winning $50K in Powerball are a mere 1 in 913,129.

Those lucky $50,000 tickets were purchased by players.

  • The Kroger store in Christiansburg is located at 555 N. Franklin St.
  • Royal in Harrisonburg is located at 895 East Market St.
  • The address for Food Lion in Locust Grove is 36127 Godwin Dr.
  • The address for Buckos Pantry in Radford is 7554 Peppers Ferry Blvd.

On January 5th, the Powerball drawing produced the following winning numbers: 6-14-25-33-46, accompanied by a Powerball number of 17.

Buying Powerball and Mega Millions tickets online

Out of the 68,000 winners in Virginia’s Powerball draw on January 5, around 11,000 opted for online ticket purchases.

Playing all of the lotto’s most popular games can be done quickly and conveniently by purchasing VA Lottery tickets online.

With the Powerball jackpot now back to $20 million, it is likely that some online lottery players in Virginia will switch their focus to Mega Millions.

Mega Millions, one of the leading multi-state jackpot draw games in the country, currently boasts a staggering $278 million jackpot. In contrast to Powerball’s three weekly drawings, Mega Millions only holds two drawings every week, specifically on Tuesday and Friday.

Due to the extensive coverage of the “lotto fever” by the media during the recent Powerball frenzy, it is anticipated that there will be a ripple effect. As a result, we can expect a surge in sales for the Mega Millions lottery, specifically for the drawing scheduled on Friday, January 7th.

The Virginia Lottery is benefiting greatly from the heightened interest in the lotto. A recent 39-drawing dry spell of Powerball winners resulted in $18 million in profit for Virginia, as confirmed by a spokesperson. It is important to note that, in accordance with the law, all of this profit is allocated towards K-12 public education in VA, as officials are eager to emphasize to the residents of Virginia.
