VA lottery raffle new years

For the upcoming new year, the immensely popular Virginia New Year’s Millionaire Raffle is set to expand even further.

The New Year’s Millionaire Raffle is an exceptionally distinctive lottery option. It stands out due to the limited availability of tickets, as once they are sold, no additional ones are printed.

Nevertheless, the most enticing aspect of the raffle is bound to capture the attention of those pursuing the jackpot: Participants have a reasonably favorable opportunity of 1 in 125,000 to win a grand prize of $1 million.

On Monday, Virginia Lottery officials revealed their plans for expansion. The announcement of the raffle winners will take place on New Year’s Day.

Tickets are currently being sold at VA Lottery’s 5,000 retail locations for a price of $20 each. Please note that these tickets cannot be purchased through the lottery’s website.

Why Virginia New Year’s Millionaire Raffle is popular

On January 1st, 2021, the VA Lottery officials will declare the first set of millionaires for the year.

A total of four grand-prize jackpots will be collected by raffle players, marking an increase from last year’s three $1 million winners.

The VA New Year’s Millionaire Raffle has gained immense popularity, with ticket sales reaching their limit well before the deadline every year. To accommodate this overwhelming demand, officials decided to increase the total number of tickets from 375,000 in 2020 to 500,000 in 2021.

Included in all of the Virginia New Year’s Millionaire Raffle prizes are:

  • 4 winners: $1 million
  • 6 winners: $100,000
  • 500 winners: $500

The winners of the 2021 raffle will be announced by VA Lottery officials on Friday, January 1st, at 2 p.m. ET. These officials had introduced raffle games back in 2007.

Another success for VA Lottery?

In spite of an initial downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the VA Lottery is experiencing an exceptional year in 2020.

The official lottery of the commonwealth concluded its most recent fiscal year on June 30, accumulating a total of $2.15 billion in sales (the second highest in history) and generating proceeds of over $595 million (the third highest in history) during the 12-month duration.

The Virginia Lottery experienced a strong recovery after the initial coronavirus lockdown, with sales witnessing a remarkable surge of 36% in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.

VA Lottery Executive Director Kevin Hall is anticipating another prosperous start to the calendar year, now that the raffle game is back in action.

It is a well-known fact that the New Year’s Millionaire Raffle by the Virginia Lottery is highly anticipated by its players every year. The combination of a limited number of tickets and the opportunity to kickstart the year with a million dollars ensures that this offering will be widely sought after.

By November 10th, close to 20,000 raffle tickets out of the total 500,000 had been purchased by players. However, the option to buy these tickets is not currently offered by the Virginia online lottery.
