The opening of the Rivers Portsmouth Casino has now been scheduled with a specified date and time.

Rivers Portsmouth will make history on Sunday, Jan. 15, as it becomes Virginia’s first ever full-service permanent casino when customers start placing bets from 3 p.m. onwards.

Casino GM Roy Corby affirmed in a statement released on Monday that they will maintain unwavering focus on ongoing hiring and training initiatives in the upcoming weeks.

In addition, Corby expressed his desire to guarantee that the team is fully prepared to provide an exceptional customer experience upon our opening in January.

Once the initial customers arrive, the doors will remain open. The casino operators in Virginia have made a commitment to maintain a 24/7/365 schedule in Portsmouth. Tim Drehkoff, the CEO of Rush Street Gaming, emphasized this promise.

We express our gratitude to the Virginia Lottery Board, the City of Portsmouth, and the Hampton Roads community for their ongoing support. Witnessing the construction process has been thrilling, and we are eagerly anticipating the public’s glimpse into what lies within.

Details came together quickly

In just 13 months, developers will transition from a groundbreaking stage to placing their first bets.

Located just south of I-264, the $340 million casino will be a prominent feature within the entertainment district along Victory Blvd.

Portsmouth Mayor Shannon Glover expressed his enthusiasm for the citizens of Portsmouth, highlighting the exciting prospects of job growth and the overall economic prosperity in our city. He further expressed his satisfaction in creating new business opportunities and introducing a completely new industry to Portsmouth.

If visitors are planning to stay for a longer duration, they will have to find accommodation elsewhere as the Rivers Casino Portsmouth opening will not initially offer a hotel.

In the future, the inclusion of lodging could be a significant enhancement. Rivers Casino Portsmouth is set to feature an event center, a grand hall spanning 25,000 square feet, and a reception area.

In the future, it would be logical to construct hotel suites at the venue since it will accommodate weddings, galas, conventions, expos, meetings, conferences, and even feature headline performers.
