Less than a week left to buy raffle tickets?

Every holiday season, the New Year’s Millionaire Raffle has seen exponential growth in popularity and size.

Each raffle ticket is priced at $20. The total number of tickets to be printed by officials this year is 500,000. Once all the tickets are sold, there will be no additional tickets made available.

There were approximately 109,000 tickets left as of Friday, December 17th.

According to an official from the Virginia Lottery, sales this year are currently exceeding those of 2020 by almost 5 percent. Historically, sales experienced a significant surge starting around December 15th, and Fridays were particularly popular among players for purchasing raffle tickets.

The ticket allotment for last year was completely sold out by December 23rd. If the current rapid sales pace persists, the 2021 raffle might sell out even earlier, possibly this very weekend.

According to a statement provided to PlayVirginia by lotto officials:

Players frequently inquire during the summer months if the New Year’s Raffle will be reintroduced this year, as it has gained significant popularity as one of the Virginia Lottery’s top games. This can be attributed to its annual nature, limited ticket availability, and favorable odds in comparison to other Lottery games.

How to buy New Year’s Millionaire Raffle tix

To participate in Virginia’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle, one must be 18 years of age or older, just like with all other Virginia Lottery products.

Raffle tickets are available for purchase at any of the 5,000 Virginia Lottery retailers spread across the commonwealth.

Tickets can also be obtained from any VA Lottery self-service machine, but unfortunately, they cannot be purchased online.

On November 2, a player kickstarted the 2022 ticket allotment by making the first purchase at a 7-Eleven in Burke, situated in Fairfax County. Subsequently, close to 400,000 more tickets have been bought.

The winning numbers for the 2022 raffle will be drawn on January 1st, 2022. If any of the numbers on your ticket match the drawn numbers, you will be declared a winner.

Included in the prizes for the 2022 New Year’s Millionaire Raffle are:

  • There are four winners who have a chance of 1 in 125,000 to win $1 million.
  • There will be a total of 6 winners who will each receive $100,000. The odds of winning this prize are 1 in 83,333.
  • There are 500 winners out of 980 participants, with each winner receiving $500.
