Powerball jackpot

A Virginia Lottery player has won a $2 million prize, but the massive Powerball jackpot worth over half-a-billion dollars is still available.

A winning ticket worth $2M was purchased by a shopper at the Stop In Food Store in Christiansburg (2375 Roanoke Street) on Monday.

As of now, the identity of the Jan. 27 drawing winner remains unknown as they have not yet come forward.

However, we are aware of how that player earned such a substantial sum of money.

One ball short of a Powerball jackpot

The Christiansburg individual playing the lotto successfully matched the initial five Powerball numbers: 21-22-39-44-60. Unfortunately, they did not match the Powerball number, which was 12. Consequently, the estimated jackpot for the upcoming Powerball drawing has reached an impressive sum of $570 million.

In addition to the impressive two-million dollar prize, there was some positive news for the player from Christiansburg. The player had chosen to spend an additional dollar on the Power Play option, which effectively doubles any non-jackpot winnings in the Powerball game.

In this instance, the player increased their potential $1 million win to an astonishing $2 million by doubling it.

Furthermore, even though Powerball is offered in 48 states and territories across the United States, no other participants managed to match the initial five numbers during the drawing on January 27. The sole exception was the player from Christiansburg, who remarkably defied the extremely slim odds of 1 in 11.7 million.

The prize must be claimed by the player within 180 days, while the owners of Stop In Food Store will be rewarded with $10,000 for selling the winning Powerball ticket worth $2 million.

You can catch the Powerball drawings every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.

Yes, you can save money on lottery tickets

We are well aware that the chances of winning the Powerball jackpot are incredibly slim. In fact, they can be described as astronomically improbable.

Winning the grand prize, which involves matching all five white balls and the red Powerball, has a probability of 1 in 292.2 million.

The house edge for Powerball typically ranges from 30 to 50 percent, depending on the jackpot size. This implies that for every dollar you invest in Powerball tickets, you can expect to lose approximately 30 to 50 cents in the long run. Unless you manage to win a significant prize like $50,000 by matching four white balls and the Powerball, playing Powerball over an extended period of time will result in overall losses.

If you’re a frequent player, there is a method to maximize your lotto budget and obtain a few additional Powerball tickets.

Powerball tickets can be conveniently purchased online through the VA Lottery, with the added benefit of deposit bonuses frequently offered by the Virginia Lottery.

Earlier this week, the Virginia Lottery presented an enticing offer where they would generously match all online deposits by 30% up to a maximum of $100. Similarly, in the previous week, the VA Lotto provided customers with a fantastic discount of 50% off when purchasing a Powerball ticket worth $20.

Make sure you have successfully set up an online lotto account and ensure that you have subscribed to receive mailings. Alongside deposits and ticket matches, the Virginia Lottery officials frequently provide free plays of their e-instant games as a bonus for making deposits.

While these discounts and bonuses won’t increase your chances of winning in every Powerball drawing, they can extend your participation and prolong the excitement of daydreaming about winning your very own Powerball jackpot.
