As a Virginia Lottery player, you now have the option to conveniently redeem your winning tickets directly into your online lottery account.

The Virginia Lottery made an announcement on Thursday regarding its latest addition, the mobile cashing feature.

In simple terms, if you buy a physical scratcher or draw game ticket, you have the option to scan it using the mobile app and transfer your winnings directly to your online lottery account. These funds can be utilized to play various games available on the Virginia Lottery’s app, including a selection of instant games.

“We are pleased to introduce this innovative option to our players,” Virginia Lottery Executive Director Kelly T. Gee said in a release. “We always have an eye on creating great customer experiences, so offering this convenient way for consumers to do business with us when and how they want demonstrates that commitment.”

How does new VA Lottery mobile ticket cashing feature work?

Taking advantage of the lottery’s new convenient feature is as easy as following three simple steps.

  1. Click on the ticket checker located in the top right corner of your Virginia Lottery app.
  2. Scan your ticket barcode using the checker provided.
  3. Claim your prize

In order to cash your winning tickets through the app, it is necessary for you to be logged into your Virginia Lottery account. You have the option to download the app from either the App Store or the Google Play store.

In addition, players have the option to deposit prizes up to $5,000 into their online wallets. According to the Virginia Lottery’s website, if the prize exceeds $5,000, players are advised to visit a lottery customer service center.

The Virginia Lottery cautions that if you wish to deposit a prize exceeding $100 for the first time, they may ask for extra details in order to process it. Moreover, any prize surpassing $600 necessitates the submission and approval of an online claim before it can be added to your funds.

Lottery players can use digital voucher option to withdraw at retail locations

In addition to depositing your winnings directly into your online account, the Virginia Lottery has introduced an additional feature.

Now, players have the option to generate a digital voucher containing a barcode. They can conveniently scan this barcode from their phone at any Virginia Lottery retailer to retrieve their winnings directly from their account.

The lottery allows players to generate vouchers ranging from $1 to $250, with a maximum limit of five vouchers per day.

In order to withdraw a prize exceeding $5,000, you are required to either visit the customer service center or submit your claim by mail.

These additions benefit both customers and retailers, creating a win-win situation. Customer convenience is a significant motivator behind these enhancements, while retailers also earn a commission for every voucher redeemed at their store.

If you prefer not to utilize the new digital withdrawal method, there is no need to worry. You still have the option to utilize the previous methods such as ACH/bank transfer, online banking, VISA debit, or PayPal.
