This week, the Pure Silk Championship marks the return of the LPGA Tour to Virginia. Additionally, with a fresh partnership with BetMGM, you now have the opportunity to place bets on the tournament.
The LPGA and its tour have been competing for 72 years, marking their 72nd year of existence.
The tour will make its way back to Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia, for a four-day tournament starting on Thursday. The event will take place from May 19th to May 23rd, running throughout Thursday to Sunday.
The 2021 Pure Silk Championship showcases a range of accomplished individuals, including notable golfers who previously excelled at the University of Virginia. Additionally, the event welcomes Paula Creamer, a former U.S. Women’s Open champion, back to LPGA Tour competition after a hiatus since 2019.
LPGA and BetMGM focus on engagement
The LPGA Tour and BetMGM have recently made a multiyear agreement, although the exact financial details have not been revealed. Nevertheless, this agreement designates BetMGM as the official betting operator and partner of the LPGA Tour.
Under the agreement, BetMGM will include the LPGA in its betting offerings, alongside the PGA Tour and PGA European Tour. Customers will have access to a wide range of betting options. Additionally, BetMGM will be granted the authority to utilize the Official Tour Partner logo for advertising and promoting its sports betting products and services.
In recent months, numerous prominent sports organizations have entered into comparable agreements. Just like smaller-league collaborations such as NASCAR-BetMGM and UFC-DraftKings, the LPGA-BetMGM partnership focuses extensively on enhancing fan involvement.
According to Brian Carroll, the senior vice president of global media distribution for the LPGA, he expressed that…
BetMGM, a renowned sports and entertainment company that has been actively promoting women’s golf, is thrilled to become an official betting operator for the LPGA. In today’s sports landscape, sports betting and digital gaming play crucial roles, and BetMGM is at the forefront of these exciting opportunities. We are delighted to collaborate with BetMGM as we aim to offer our fans more chances to engage with the LPGA and discover the extraordinary talents of our athletes.
BetMGM benefits from its collaboration with MGM Resorts by gaining access to established sponsor relationships with prominent figures in the LPGA Tour, such as Michelle Wie West, Natalie Gulbis, and Danielle Kang.
From January 21st to November 21st, the 2021 LPGA Tour season takes place. In Virginia, all sportsbooks provide golf betting, with LPGA Tour options typically accessible prior to each tournament.
The Pure Silk Championship, happening this week, marks the 10th out of 34 scheduled events for this year. Apart from the United States, these tournaments are held in various countries including Singapore, Thailand, France, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Canada, China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan.
2021 Pure Silk Championship odds to win
The current edition of the Pure Silk Championship is set to be held at the Kingsmill Resort’s par-71 River Course.
The tournament, which was established in 2013, took over from the Michelob ULTRA Open (1981-2002) held at the course. Anheuser-Busch, the founder of the course in the 1970s, had initiated the previous tournament.
In 2019, Bronte Law, the English golfer, claimed her first LPGA Tour title by clinching a two-stroke victory and became the defending champion of the Pure Silk Championship.
This year, following a one-year hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pure Silk Championship makes its grand comeback with an impressive lineup of star-studded participants.
The Pure Silk Championship odds have been released by BetMGM, with Sei Young Kim emerging as the favorite at +600 odds (meaning a $10 bet would result in a $60 profit). At 28 years old, Kim, the 2020 LPGA Tour Player of the Year, currently holds the ninth position in the 2021 LPGA Tour season standings.
Some other top contenders in the standings are Brooke M. Henderson, ranked seventh with odds of +700. Nelly Korda, ranked second, also has odds of +700, while her sister Jessica Korda, ranked fifth, has odds of +1100.
Included in the field are former golfers from the Virginia Cavaliers.
- +5000 Brittany Altomare (49th)
- +20000 Lauren Coughlin (124th)
- +40000 Elizabeth Szokol (116th)
Law (66th) is currently listed at odds of +15000, making them the defending tournament champion.
On the other hand, Creamer makes a comeback to the competition, proclaiming to be completely free of pain for the first time in numerous years. Despite her lack of recent activity, the bookmakers offer the beloved athlete at a conservative +40000.
