Virginia Lottery Spices Up Pick 3 And Pick 4 With New ‘Fireball’ Option

Fireball, the latest offering from the Virginia Lottery, presents new opportunities for Pick 3 and Pick 4 players.

If you have reviewed the outcomes of the most recent VA Lottery drawings, you may have noticed a fresh number listed alongside the results for Pick 3 and Pick 4. However, please note that this does not indicate an expansion of the twice-daily draw games to Pick 4 and Pick 5.

Starting from Monday, May 3, players will have the opportunity to enhance their Pick 3 and Pick 4 play choices by adding the optional Fireball.

By using the Fireball add-on, you will need to pay twice the amount for your Pick 3 and Pick 4 tickets. However, this also increases your chances of winning an additional $200 prize on Pick 3 with Fireball and up to $1,500 on Pick 4 with Fireball.

In addition to the regular Pick 3 and Pick 4 prizes, the Fireball payouts are also provided.

How to play the Fireball option

Twice daily, the Virginia Lottery conducts Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawings. The day draw occurs at 1:59 p.m., while the night draw takes place at 11 p.m.

You have the option to choose the Fireball feature, whether it is for Pick 3 or Pick 4, day or night draw. By selecting this option, you can pick a number from zero to nine out of the available ten numbers.

The Virginia Lottery has released a video showcasing the Fireball option, which allows players to replace a regular number with the Fireball in order to match numbers. This video complements the Pick 3 and Pick 4 payout tables available on their website.

It is important to note that the Fireball payouts differ from the regular ones. For instance, winning an exact-match Pick 3 will result in a $500 payout, whereas the Pick 3 with Fireball will only yield $200.

Where to play Pick 3 and Pick 4

At the numerous retail outlets spread across the commonwealth of Virginia, you have the option to play Pick 3 and Pick 4. Additionally, you can conveniently acquire tickets at any self-service terminal provided by the VA Lottery.

Despite having games available to play on its website, the VA Lottery does not include Pick 3 and Pick 4. Online tickets are only available for the multistate Mega Millions, Powerball, and Cash4Life drawings.

Virginia’s draw games continue to be highly popular despite the availability of new online lottery options like instant-win games. This was particularly evident during the Virginia Lottery’s fiscal year from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020, which encompassed the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During fiscal year 2020, the daily draw games (Pick 3, Pick 4, and Cash 5) constituted 32.2% of the total sales of the VA Lottery. Despite slight declines in sales for Pick 4 and Cash 5 compared to the previous year, Pick 3 experienced a positive growth, with sales rising from $329.3 million in FY2019 to $336.9 million in FY2020 (+2.3%).

Players can now enjoy a fresh take on the traditional lottery game with the introduction of the Fireball option.
