Before summer arrives, a temporary casino is set to open in Virginia, with plans to eventually transform it into a full-fledged casino.

Moreover, it would mark the pioneering establishment of Virginia’s inaugural casino.

Located on the border of Virginia and Tennessee, the future Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol is set to become a vast $500 million attraction.

However, in the coming months, Hard Rock officials are currently constructing and preparing to launch a temporary casino.

Temporary casino the latest step for busy Hard Rock officials

While casinos in Danville, Norfolk, and Portsmouth are also in progress and expected to open next year, Hard Rock Bristol has always aimed to be the pioneer in this regard.

Even before voters officially and overwhelmingly supported the project, officials had already discussed the possibility of a temporary casino. They had initially set a target date of late 2021.

Officials have confirmed that the temporary casino may open in late May or June during its latest hiring/vendor events. The Memorial Day weekend from May 28-30, which is known for vacations, is an obvious target. Virginia Lottery Board officials, who are responsible for overseeing casino gambling in the state, had previously stated that Hard Rock could potentially obtain a gaming license in time for that ambitious target date.

The rapid launch of the project can be attributed to both the determination and hard work of company officials, as well as certain logistical advantages that set it apart from other casino sites in Virginia.

Developers of Hard Rock Bristol have deliberately incorporated foundational elements from the previous Bristol Mall property into the construction plans. The intention behind this design is to utilize existing infrastructure whenever feasible, ensuring efficient utilization of resources.

Hard Rock Bristol officials are currently in the midst of a hiring spree as they make preparations for the upcoming temporary casino.

Jon Lucas, Chief Operating Officer at Hard Rock International, informed WJHL.com:

In a few weeks, we will be launching a dealer’s training school that spans over six weeks. Our current focus involves recruiting dealers, security personnel, and surveillance experts. Additionally, we are also actively working on establishing the necessary groundwork and foundation for various other positions within the hospitality industry.

When will full Hard Rock Bristol open?

Overall, the temporary casino opening will result in the employment of approximately 300 individuals by Hard Rock.

The upcoming temporary resort, named “Bristol Casino — Future home of Hard Rock,” will provide a glimpse into the exciting future. Upon its initial opening, a significant highlight will be the inclusion of the Hard Rock Sportsbook.

Construction on the temporary casino will be ongoing until the grand opening in 2025, when the full resort, complete with a hotel and the Hard Rock Live entertainment center, along with various amenities and attractions, will be unveiled.

By that time, authorities anticipate the recruitment of 1,500 to 2,000 employees on a full-time basis.

What should patrons anticipate from the temporary casino?

During a chat with the Bristol Herald Courier, Lucas described the following:

The temporary establishment will feature a spacious sit-down restaurant with a capacity of 200 seats. Additionally, we will have a smaller grab-and-go section with around 30 seats. For sports enthusiasts, we will offer a sports bar equipped with sports betting capabilities, serving delicious food alongside. As for gaming options, our plans currently entail the inclusion of approximately 875 slot machines and 22 table games. To accommodate non-smokers, we will provide a separate entrance leading to a designated non-smoking area. Moreover, there will be a high limit area dedicated to slots and tables, along with our player’s club, a retail shop, and ample parking facilities.
