Rivers Casino Portsmouth will be available for Virginia residents to try out, but they’ll have to wait a little longer.
The grand opening, which was initially planned for Sunday, has been rescheduled by the organizers to take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 23rd.
An update has been provided by the casino regarding the change in date. Rivers Casino Portsmouth required additional time to thoroughly test and authenticate their new gaming equipment.
The revised date and time for the new grand opening ceremony will be sent to the previous guest list via invitations.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth expressed in a statement that their utmost focus lies in delivering an exceptional guest experience. They aim to become the preferred entertainment destination in Hampton Roads, and they will not accept anything less. They sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to welcome their valued guests in the near future.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth’s charity night rescheduled, too
The casino decided to reschedule their charity night, which was initially scheduled a few days before the original grand opening. Additionally, the dates for these events have been changed.
The charity dates for this week, which were originally scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday, have been rescheduled to Jan. 19 and Jan. 21, one week from now.
Those who had confirmed their attendance for the charity nights will be sent revised invitations with updated event timings, similar to how it was done for the delayed grand opening.
What was the original plan for the Rivers Casino?
As part of a planned entertainment district along Victory Blvd, the casino initially targeted Jan. 15 as the highly anticipated grand opening date.
Construction on the casino’s site commenced in the latter part of 2021. Shortly thereafter, the operator’s license was unanimously approved by the Virginia Lottery Board. The go-ahead for the casino’s development was obtained in 2020.
In November, the board unanimously approved a second license for Rivers Casino, marking the latest achievement for the establishment.
“At the time of the vote, Chairman Ferhan Hamid emphasized the importance of regulating these facilities with the utmost standards to instill confidence in all citizens, even if not every Virginian chooses to visit them.”
The Rivers Casino will showcase the latest gambling technology and hospitality
Just like any newly established casinos, Rivers Casino Portsmouth will boast all the extravagant features, totaling a staggering $340 million.
Inside the gaming floor, there will be a total of 1,448 slot machines and 57 table games available for guests to enjoy. Additionally, poker enthusiasts will have access to a dedicated poker room consisting of 24 tables.
In addition to the casino, a total of ten restaurants and bars will be housed within its premises. Notable establishments include the renowned Admiral’s Steak and Seafood, the delightful Crossings Café, and the delightful Mian restaurant. Furthermore, there will be a variety of options for pizza lovers and coffee enthusiasts.
In addition to hosting a BetRivers sportsbook, Rivers Casino Portsmouth will feature state-of-the-art screens showcasing local, regional, and international sports events. Moreover, patrons will have the opportunity to enjoy a lounge experience while playing various golf simulation games in the Topgolf Swing Suites, all with a stunning view overlooking the sportsbook.
Furthermore, the casino’s site will include a spacious 25,000-square-foot event center, ideal for hosting weddings, galas, conventions, and a wide range of other events. Additionally, there will be a hotel available for guests.
More Virginia casinos are on the way
Rivers Casino Portsmouth, although the second casino to obtain a license in Virginia, will hold the distinction of being the first fully equipped permanent facility in the state.
Two additional casinos are preparing for their grand openings, while Bristol Casino – Future Home of Hard Rock currently holds the title of the only operating casino in the state. Despite its temporary status, the casino offers a wide range of amenities, including 870 slots, 21 tables, a sportsbook, and various food options, all within its 30,000-square-foot space. In the month of November alone, Bristol Casino – Future Home of Hard Rock managed to generate an impressive $12.65 million in revenue.
The Bristol casino is scheduled to commence full operations in the spring of 2025, alongside the opening of two temporary casinos in Danville and Norfolk.
