The NHL team, Washington Capitals, and Caesars Sportsbook have expanded their relationship through a new agreement centered around jerseys.

Earlier this year, a significant milestone was achieved by Caesars Entertainment and Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE), the proud owner of the Caps. In May, MSE’s Capital One Arena welcomed the grand opening of a Caesars Sportsbook sports betting venue, marking a historic moment.

Upon its debut, it achieved the distinction of being the inaugural sportsbook to operate within a professional sports facility in the United States.

The team has just become the inaugural participant in the NHL’s Jersey Advertising Program by announcing a multi-year deal.

The NHL Jersey Advertising Program is set to commence in the upcoming 2022-23 NHL season. Nevertheless, similar to other team-sportsbook collaborations, NHL franchises are hustling to secure their share of the opportunity.

On this occasion, the Capitals were the first to score.

What does the deal signify for the team as they commence the 2021-2022 hockey season on Oct. 13?

As a collaboration between Caesars and the Capitals, the Caesars Sportsbook logo will be featured on the home and alternate jerseys worn by the team during games at Capital One Arena. Positioned on the upper right chest, each jersey will proudly display a 3- x 3.5-inch patch.

The NHL’s Jersey Advertising Program permits every NHL club to have a maximum of two sponsors for their jerseys. However, the sponsors must be different for the home and away jerseys. As per the announcement, the Caps will reveal the sponsor for their away jersey at a later time.

After the NHL started permitting sponsor logos on players’ helmets last season, the Jersey Advertising Program received approval from the NHL board of governors, indicating its expectedness. It is reported that the program has generated an additional $100 million in revenue for NHL teams.

Despite being more prevalent in international sports, jersey ads are still relatively new in US sports leagues.

Caesars and Capitals all-in on sports betting

In May, the highly acclaimed Caesars Sportsbook at Capital One Arena commenced its operations under a 10-year lease agreement. With its impressive two-story structure spanning over 18,000 square feet, the venue has garnered enthusiastic praise.

The facility includes a total of 17 betting windows and 12 self-service betting kiosks. Additionally, bettors have the option to utilize the Caesars app, which is comparable to the one used by Virginia sports bettors within the state. This app also incorporates Caesars Rewards. However, in DC, the app is only operational within the arena premises and its immediate vicinity, as per the local sports-betting regulations.

However, it is evident that Caesars recognizes the worth of the DC market, particularly the Capitals. In the most recent agreement, they have extended their partnership to include more casino, gaming, and Caesars Rewards features. Additionally, Caesars will receive exclusive hospitality area and VIP seating at Capital One Arena.

Chris Holdren, the Co-President of Caesars Digital, expressed the following sentiment:

We are thrilled to be a part of the Washington Capitals jersey, as it adds an exciting chapter to our shared narrative. Just like Monumental Sports & Entertainment, we have a passion for pioneering new paths and constantly seeking innovative chances to engage fans through storytelling. It brings us great pride to continue our longstanding partnership with such a legendary franchise, especially after the successful launch of the sportsbook at Capital One Arena.
