Joshua Orme may be in need of a refreshing spring break escape.
Thanks to a $5 million prize awarded by the Virginia Lottery, all gratitude goes to them.
Orme, an entrepreneur based in Amherst, emerged as the fortunate winner of a $326,000,000 prize from a Fortune scratch-off ticket. This remarkable victory was achieved through a purchase made at Sardis Grocery Store, marking yet another addition to the impressive list of significant lottery wins in Virginia.
Big Virginia Lottery payday for Amherst man
Orme headed to his car with the ticket in hand, eagerly anticipating the moment he could scratch it and unveil the exciting prize waiting to be discovered.
Orme expressed his disbelief to Lottery officials as he claimed his prize, stating, “I can’t believe this is happening. It feels so unreal.” Given the choice between a single cash payout of $3,125,000 before taxes or receiving annual payments over a period of 30 years, Orme decided to go with the latter option.
Orme’s victory in the Virginia Lottery’s $326,000,000 Fortune game secured him the grand prize of $5 million. As the initial recipient, Orme became the first fortunate winner among the three potential life-altering payouts up for grabs. There remain two more chances for fellow Virginians to experience a significant windfall from this game.
In $326,000,000 Fortune, the chances of winning the grand prize are 1 in 2,774,400. Whereas, the odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 3.43.
The Virginia Lottery awards Sardis Grocery Store, the seller of the winning ticket, with a generous bonus of $10,000.
When inquired about his thoughts on the significant victory, Orme expressed his feelings succinctly, stating, “It feels quite satisfying!”
A week of lottery winners shine in Virginia
A fortunate group of Virginia Lottery players has experienced a lucky week.
After emerging victorious in the March 4 Powerball drawing, Ben Baker, the winner, collected his well-deserved reward this week. Remarkably, Baker managed to win not just once, but twice in the same drawing. His strategy involved purchasing 10 Powerball tickets from the nearby Food Lion store, where he also opted to add Power Play for an additional dollar.
Baker managed to secure a significant sum of $150,000 after successfully matching four white balls and opting for the Power Play feature. Additionally, luck struck again when he scored an additional ticket, resulting in a total win of $300,000.
Kristeen Maddox, refusing to be surpassed, triumphantly secured a grand prize exceeding $293,000 while playing the online lottery game The Lamp offered by VA.
Despite this, the saga pressed on. In Annandale, Man Nguyen discovered the VA Lottery app still present on his phone and made an impulsive decision to purchase a few tickets. Little did he know, this spur-of-the-moment choice would lead to a staggering $1,000,000 win after successfully matching the first five numbers in the Mega Millions draw on February 28th.
Following Virginia’s largest recent winner, a Powerball ticket bought in Dublin, which secured the massive $162.6 million jackpot in early March, all of this has now unfolded.
