Mark your calendars: Live horse racing is returning to Virginia beginning in July with 19 race dates at Colonial Downs Racetrack.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars! Virginia’s Colonial Downs Racetrack will be hosting live horse racing in July.

On Thursday, officials unveiled the racing schedule for 2021, spanning three months. This year’s live racing, which was cut short in 2020 due to the pandemic, will consist of three race days every week.

What’s even better? Both general admission and parking are completely free.

Located in the eastern region of Virginia, Colonial Downs Racetrack resides in New Kent County. This remarkable venue also houses a Rosie’s Gaming Emporium, making it a unique establishment. Operating as one of the five historical horse racing (HHR) and racebook locations across the state, it plays a significant role in the commonwealth.

  • Aug. 2-4
  • Aug. 9-11
  • Aug. 16-18

Similar to numerous sporting organizations, Colonial Downs made an effort to proceed with its 2020 season despite the challenges. To ensure safety, they even decided to remove the option of in-person attendance.

Nevertheless, authorities decided to close the operation in August as a result of a surge in positive COVID-19 tests at the racetrack.

Jill Byrne, the Vice President of Racing Operations at Colonial Downs Group, expressed:

Colonial Downs eagerly anticipates its third year of racing, where it will once again welcome esteemed horses and horsemen from all corners of the nation. Offering generous daily purses that rank among the highest during the summer months, we are committed to providing an exhilarating experience for all. The previous year, marred by the pandemic’s difficulties, has been testing for everyone. Consequently, we are thrilled to witness the return of our incredible fans and supporters, who can safely relish the thrill of live horse racing.

What to Expect at Colonial Downs
