Virginia will soon see the launch of Barstool Sportsbook as its next sports betting operator.

The officials have recently made an announcement regarding their plans for a launch on Tuesday, August 10th. Along with this exciting news, the Penn National Gaming property has also confirmed that they will be making their debut in the state of Colorado on Monday.

After its launch here, the Barstool mobile app will be the eighth sportsbook in Virginia to accept sports bets. Remarkably, it is the first sportsbook to be launched in the state in over three months.

For quite some time, sports bettors have been aware of Barstool’s impending launch in Virginia. Nevertheless, the exact date had managed to retain an element of secrecy until this moment.

Barstool Sportsbook launches in Virginia – finally!

A plethora of sportsbooks emerged and engaged in a fierce competition for market dominance when sports betting was officially introduced in Virginia earlier this year.

Nevertheless, Barstool remained on the sidelines.

Following FanDuel’s pioneering launch on January 21, other operators such as DraftKings, BetMGM, and BetRivers also entered the market by the end of January. William Hill (now Caesars) made its debut in February, WynnBET followed suit in March, and Unibet Sports joined the competition in April.

On March 15, the Virginia Lottery granted a permit to Penn Sports Interactive, LLC (commonly known as Barstool), enabling them to operate legal and regulated sports betting in VA. Similar to Golden Nugget and Bally Bet, who also received permits on the same day, Barstool had remained inactive until now.

Barstool officials had been dropping hints for several months about their plans to launch in Virginia by the fall, strategically aligning with the NFL and NCAA college football seasons, which are highly sought-after for sports betting enthusiasts.

Barstool will have ample time to allure potential new customers with sign-up offers, bonuses, and various other perks before the football season commences, starting from August 10th.

Sports betting at Barstool Virginia

Barstool Sportsbook is a branch of the well-known Barstool brand, originally established by the charismatic and sometimes controversial founder, David Portnoy, through a print publication back in 2003. Over time, it has transformed into a dominant force in digital sports media, boasting a dedicated following of enthusiastic fans known as “Stoolies.”

In 2020, following Penn National’s acquisition of a significant portion of the company, Barstool Sportsbook was introduced in Pennsylvania later in the same year.

The sportsbook is now live in Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana, in addition to PA and CO. These states, along with Virginia, are among the most popular in the US for legal sports betting.

Barstool faces a challenging journey ahead as there are already seven sportsbooks operating in the commonwealth. The initial sportsbooks to launch in Virginia have successfully acquired a significant portion of the market. FanDuel takes the lead with a 49.5% market share, followed by DraftKings with 25.4% and BetMGM with 16.4%. Combined, these three sportsbooks have accounted for over 90% of all legal sports wagers in Virginia.

What can Virginia sports bettors anticipate from Barstool VA? The mobile sports betting app offers a comprehensive selection of top sports leagues, teams, and events to place bets on. Additionally, Barstool is renowned for its diverse range of betting promotions and unique wagering markets.
