DraftKings is commemorating the anniversary of a monumental shift in the world of sports betting by introducing “Free To Bet Day,” which took place three years ago and revolutionized the industry.

In summary, if you are a customer of DraftKings in Virginia, you can expect a complimentary bet on Friday, May 14.

May 14, 2018 marks a significant day as it commemorates the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), giving us a reason to celebrate.

After the PASPA ruling, US states were granted the freedom to actively pursue the legalization of sports betting.

As a result, regulated sports wagering was officially introduced in Virginia earlier this year. This development has also brought about the annual Free To Bet Day at DraftKings, enabling both new and existing customers to obtain a complimentary wager.

Free To Bet Day details

All DraftKings customers can enjoy a complimentary bet worth $5.14 as a promotional offer.

To take advantage of this offer, you are required to actively participate and utilize it on Free To Bet Day, occurring this Friday, May 14. Moreover, similar to other free bet promotions, the value of the free bet will not be counted towards any profits or winnings.

Furthermore, the free bet is restricted to only one per eligible user, cannot be exchanged for cash, and is neither transferable nor refundable.

Simple enough, eh?

Since the launch of sports betting on Jan. 21, Virginia sports bettors have been treated to numerous promotions, with Free To Bet Day being the latest one.

After the Murphy vs. NCAA decision, which led to the repeal of PASPA, several states promptly passed laws to legalize sports betting. However, Virginia opted for a more cautious strategy. Eventually, FanDuel became the first to launch, followed by DraftKings and a few other sportsbooks in the subsequent days and weeks.

At present, Virginia has seven operational sportsbooks, with three more having permits and intending to launch in the near future. In the month of March, the second month of legal wagering in the state, bettors amassed almost $300 million in sports bets. This positioned Virginia as the seventh highest among all sports betting jurisdictions, including 27 states and Washington, DC, in terms of betting activity for the month of March.
