The 2022 Colonial Downs schedule has just been announced by officials, featuring an impressive lineup of promotional giveaways and an increased number of races scheduled for this summer.
After achieving a remarkable daily handle of 2.2 million in 2021, Virginia’s sole live horse betting track has now revealed its schedule for upcoming races.
The Thoroughbred horses will commence their races on Monday, July 11th, and this thrilling event will persist every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until September 7th. The highly anticipated Virginia Derby will take place on September 6th.
According to the announcement, this year will place a refreshed focus on families, offering them an opportunity to enjoy the last holiday of summer in an affordable and enjoyable setting through a new Labor Day race. Moreover, a plush horse giveaway is scheduled to take place in late August.
According to John Marshall, the Executive Vice President of Operations at Colonial Downs Group,
“This year, our focus is on enhancing the racing experience and increasing the enjoyment.”

The average purses for each race day will be $600,000, which represents an increase from the previous year’s $500,000.
However, if you are unable to physically attend the races, you can still enjoy them through the TVG horse racing app, as races are simulcast nationwide. This allows you to watch the races and place bets from the comfort of your own home.
TVG is an authorized gambling platform operating within the United States. To be more precise, it functions as an advanced deposit wagering (ADW) website. ADW sites allow bettors to conveniently deposit funds into their accounts prior to placing bets on horse races, similar to the process followed at online Virginia sportsbooks.
According to Marshall, the upcoming 2022 Colonial Downs season will offer a wide range of activities for the whole family, including a brand new season finale on the Labor Day holiday.
Colonial Downs ensures a delightful day or night for all, presenting a plethora of offerings, including complimentary general admission. Our commitment to enhancing Virginia horseracing and making a positive difference in our communities remains unwavering at both Colonial Downs and Rosie’s.
